I personally love the mention of “the simplicity of the movement”: the effort to economize movement, and yet also to bring it around into familiar shapes. You wonder at some point though, what the economizing is avoiding. To put it another way, one I’ve been thinking about for a while: ease of use basically defines innovation now, invention. We’re not in the business of creating more, anymore, but of creating less.

I have a Toshiba laptop and its' battery used to last up to two hours when it wasn't plugged in. Now, it lasts about ten minutes and I have no idea what is wrong or how to fix it. I've done lots of virus scans and there isn't a bug that is causing it. Please help! santoramaa

Stiegler follows a phenomenological path, according to which the “classical” distinction between subject and object can no longer be maintained (if it ever could…). That is why what determines the selections is the “hybrid” of who and what, and user and the tool/machine/technic. This is also explained by the theory of Leroi Gourhan that is brought by Stiegler, with regards to the origins of the human, origin which is technical by its very nature. Put differently, when the ape stood up, the hands were free to “do technics” while the mouth became free to “do culture”. This is how the human was “born”, according to Leroi Gourhan, and hence according to Stiegler.
